Health Data for Peace:
A Framework and Review of Data for Post-Conflict Transition Monitoring of Health

In May 2001, CERTI was tasked by USAID/Rwanda to assist in standing up a fully functional School of Public Health (SPH) at the National University of Rwanda (NUR). The substance of the SPH’s mission, training and research is intimately related to conflict prevention, mitigation and recovery. Indeed, CPMR has been mainstreamed in to MPH modules; is incorporated in to doctoral curriculum being developed for faculty training; and is a key area of applied and academic research being undertaken by the SPH. The SPH works collaboratively with the conflict studies unit within the NUR. Through training of district health teams, CERTI will pilot a conflict risk assessment exercise that will signal potential threats to peace during the upcoming political elections. The activity has four major components:
bulletMPH and district health team training
bulletFaculty development
bulletApplied research capability development
bulletDevelopment of administrative systems
